Sitting out in Tournaments

Sitting out in Tournaments

Sitting Out in ClubWPT Gold Tournaments:

Understanding how to manage your time away from the table is a key part of playing online poker. At ClubWPT Gold, the process for "sitting out" is straightforward. This guide will explain what happens when you are away from the table and cover the specific rules for different types of tournaments.

How to Sit Out

At ClubWPT Gold, the only way to sit out during a tournament is by letting your play clock run out on your turn. Once your timebank expires and your hand is automatically folded, you will be flagged as "Sitting Out." You will remain in this state until you return to the table and actively click the "Sit In" button.

What Happens When a Player is Sitting Out?

A player who is sitting out is still considered an active participant in the tournament. They will continue to be dealt into each hand and will automatically post the blinds and antes as required.

  • Hand Management: When it is a sitting-out player's turn to act, their hand will be automatically folded. This continues for every hand until the player returns.

  • The All-In Exception: The only time a sitting-out player’s hand is not automatically folded is if they are all-in. In this case, their hand will be played out to showdown, and they can still win the pot and remain in the tournament while they are away from their device.

Practical Use of the Sit-Out Feature

The sit-out feature is primarily designed for short, unexpected breaks. While most tournaments have scheduled breaks every hour, the sit-out option provides a convenient way to step away for a few hands for an emergency, to grab food, or simply to take a short break without being automatically eliminated.

Special Rules for Freeroll Tournaments

ClubWPT Gold has a specific policy regarding sitting out in Freeroll tournaments to ensure a better experience for all players.

  • The Issue: In online poker, many players like to register for numerous Freeroll tournaments and simply sit out, hoping to "survive" into the money without having to actively play. This is common because Freerolls have no buy-in, leading to very loose and fast-paced play in the early stages.

  • The Player Experience: This practice can be frustrating for players who are actively playing, as they may find themselves at a table with a large number of inactive players, which is not an enjoyable experience.

  • Our Solution: To mitigate this issue and encourage more active play, ClubWPT Gold has implemented a time-out rule. If a player sits out for the majority of three different Freeroll tournaments, they will receive a one-week suspension from playing in all Freeroll tournaments. This policy helps to ensure that players who register for these events are doing so with the genuine intent to play.

We believe this policy helps create a more engaging and fair environment in our Freeroll tournaments. If you have any further questions about sitting out or any other tournament rule, please contact our Customer Support Team.
