Understanding Different Tournament Types

Tournament Types at ClubWPT Gold: Your Ultimate Guide

ClubWPT Gold offers a variety of tournament formats to suit every player's style and preference. Understanding the differences between these events is key to choosing the right game for you. Here is a breakdown of the tournament types we offer.

1. Re-Entry Tournaments

Re-entry tournaments are a staple of our tournament lineup. If you are eliminated during the late registration period, you are given the option to buy back into the tournament for another chance to compete.

  • Key Details: The number of times you can re-enter varies by tournament. Some events may have a maximum number of re-entries (e.g., 2 Re-Entries Max), while others may allow for unlimited re-entry. These details can always be found in the Tournament Lobby.

2. Freezeout Tournaments

The Freezeout format is the opposite of a re-entry event. In a freezeout, you get only one shot at the tournament. Once you are eliminated, you cannot buy back in.

  • Key Details: Freezeout tournaments are almost always clearly labeled in the tournament name to avoid any confusion. All of our Freeroll tournaments are also Freezeouts, as players are only allowed one free entry unless explicitly stated otherwise.

3. Rebuy & Add-on Tournaments

  1. This is very similar to a re-entry tournament, however, with the added benefit of the add-on.
    1. In these tournaments you are typically granted one opportunity to re-enter the tournament (there can sometimes be more, but most tournaments on ClubWPT Gold allow 1).
    2. Then, at the end of the late registration period, you are given the option to add-on. This means you are able to pay a fee for more chips. The fee is normally similar to the buy-in amount. However, you receive more chips than you received with your buy-in. This amount you receive ranges, but could be double your initial buy-in or more.
      1. In the example below, you will see that the amount you would receive with the add-on is double what you would receive with your initial buy-in.

4. Satellite Tournaments

Satellites are a fantastic way for players with smaller bankrolls to qualify for larger, higher-stakes tournaments. Instead of winning cash, the top finishers in a satellite win a "seat" or a "ticket" to a more expensive event.

We offer two types of satellite tournaments:

  • Ticket Satellites: Ticket Satellites award a tournament ticket to the winners. This ticket can then be used by the player to register for a larger buy-in tournament of their choosing, typically within a 30-day period.

    • Example: A tournament is listed as a "218 Chip Satellite (5 Tickets GTD)" with a 22 Chip buy-in. The top five players in this event will each win a Ticket worth 218 Chips, which can be used to enter any 218-Chip buy-in tournament. "GTD" means Guaranteed, so at least five tickets will be awarded.

  • Feeder Satellites: Feeder Satellites automatically register you for the target event immediately after you win. There is no ticket awarded to your account; instead, you are automatically seated in the tournament you qualified for.

    • Important Notes:

      • The target tournament you qualify for will always be listed in the Tournament Details.

      • Feeder Satellite prizes often register you into a tournament that is already in progress but still within the late registration period.

      • If you qualify, you will be automatically registered and cannot unregister from the target event. Please ensure you are available to play the target tournament before entering a Feeder Satellite.

  • Satellites End Early: It is important to remember that satellite tournaments end once the number of players remaining equals the number of prizes being awarded. For example, in a "5 Tickets GTD" satellite, the tournament will end when only five players remain, and all five will receive the same ticket prize.

5. Sit & Go (SNG) Tournaments

Sit & Go tournaments are a fast-paced alternative to multi-table tournaments, perfect for players with less time.

  • Key Details:

    • SNGs do not have a set start time. They begin as soon as all seats are filled.

    • ClubWPT Gold currently offers 8-player Sit & Go's with a fast, turbo blind structure.

    • The top three players typically finish in the money.

    • Current buy-ins include 5 Chips, 20 Chips, and 100 Chips.

6. Bounty Tournaments

Bounty tournaments add an exciting twist to the standard format by putting a price on every player's head. A portion of your buy-in goes to a bounty prize pool, and you win a cash prize for every opponent you eliminate.

We offer two types of bounty tournaments:

  • Standard Bounty: In a standard bounty tournament, every player starts with the same bounty amount. When you eliminate a player, their full bounty is immediately added to your account.

  • Progressive Knockout (PKO): Progressive Knockout tournaments are a fan favorite. When you eliminate an opponent, you win half of their bounty, which is immediately credited to your account. The other half is added to your own bounty, making you a more valuable target for other players.

    • This progressive feature encourages more aggressive play and creates a compelling dynamic where a player's bounty can grow to be very large.

    • The winner of a PKO tournament gets to keep their own bounty in addition to all the bounties they've won throughout the tournament.

We hope this guide helps you choose the perfect tournament for your next game. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact our Customer Support Team.
